Jenny Chen was born in 1944 in Chongqing, Chongqing. Her husband was the renowned entrepreneur Chen Fei-Peng. She began engaging with art in midlife and soon devoted herself fully to artistic creation. In 1987, she moved alone to the United States to pursue further study, and in 1990 received her master’s degree from Pratt Institute in New York City, where she then lived and worked for more than three decades.

Chen possesses an abundant creative energy. Her practice centers primarily on abstract painting, characterized by broad layers and splashes of vivid pure color, creating compositions that evoke musical rhythm and bodily movement in visual form.

In 2022, she returned to Taipei to care for her ailing husband. This film follows her footsteps through New York and Taipei—two cities of profound significance to the artist. By revisiting meaningful places, people, and memories, it reflects on her life story and the distinctive nature of her artistic practice: a continuous pursuit of freedom and self-realization within established social frameworks.
