Join us on December 14 (Sat.) for Suspending Time: Artist Talk on Perplexity, during which the artist Jason Chi will be in conversation with senior art critics and scholars, Craig L. Yee and Pei-ni Hsieh. From art historical canon, spatial perception, to technicality and aesthetics, this talk will approach Chi’s creative practices and reflections presented in “Perplexity” from multiple perspectives.
About the Participants
Jason Chi
Jason Chi holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, USA. With an academic background in both art and architecture, Chi has seamlessly navigated multiple roles throughout his career, including those of artist, curator, collector, and art promoter. His steadfast pursuit of ideals is evident in every step of his journey. The abundant vitality of his life is something that static works alone can hardly capture, yet glimpses of it are readily observable along his artistic path. Chi’s works are included in the collections of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, White Rabbit Gallery in Australia, and numerous private collections. He currently lives and works in Taichung, Taiwan
Craig L. Yee
Craig L. Yee is a co-founding director of INKstudio, also a renowned scholar and curator. Mr. Yee has played a central organizational and editorial role in a number of research projects on classical Chinese painting at major university and museums, including the Honolulu Academy of Arts, the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, and LACMA. He has been a contributing author and editor to monographs in the University of Hawaii Press Modern Ink Series. He has also published monographs in the D.A.P. Contemporary Ink Series and was a contributing author to prominent exhibition catalogs.Mr. Yee’s research interests include the visual semiotics of ink art and comparative approaches to contemporary philosophy, contemporary science, and pre-modern Chinese thought.
Pei-ni Hsieh
Ms. Pei-ni Hsieh has over 30 years of cross-disciplinary professional experience. She is the recipient of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, OMRI, and a national award issued by Czechoslovakia, also a visiting scholar invited by the US, France, Germany, Australia, and the UK government.
Ms. Hsieh currently serves as the Director of NTHU Hung Liang Art Museum, as well as the board of multiple influential cultural institutions. Her former positions include Commissioner for Cultural Affairs at Taipei Municipal Government, CEO of Taiwan Culture Foundation, Director of Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, President of AICA-Taiwan, CEO of HCS Arts Foundation, and the chief curator of the Taiwan Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture. She also directed international events such as Nuit Blanche and the Taipei International Book Exhibition.
