Overview
Living Clay 5, Kao Chung-Li.Lin Ju.Chen Chieh-Jen Group Exhibition

In 1996, Living Clay Four was held at Lin& Keng Gallery at its old address. Instead of deserted house, old apartment and basement where the other Living Clay exhibitions used to take place, the members chose for the first time the exhibition space of a gallery to show their creation. Now after three years, encouraged by the good communication between the artists and the gallery, we will have Living Clay Five at our gallery, this time in the new exhibition room.

In 1986, one year before the lift of the Martial Law, Taiwanese society was still haunted by the strained polifical air. In contrast to the cultural inertia at that time, Living Clay One, a joint exhibition of several artists at an empty apartment, was a spontaneous and explosive gesture. This show probably also heralded the exhibition at "alternative spaces."

With Living Clay Two in 1988 and Living Clay Three in 1991, this art group continually gave retreshing energy and stimulation to the art world in Taiwan. On the other hand, they kept their activities in a low key and acted freely at a periphera zone.

We believe that any kind of "underground" activity is capable of providing possibilities for the future, and any kind of "periphera" art implies a new aesthetic field. Through exhibitions and constant interactions with the artists, we want to discover new possibilities for art production. We have great confidence in the achievements of the Living Clay and look forward to its further explorations.
