In July 2000, Lin & Keng Gallery presented Works on Paper 1929–1949, focusing on five artists with overseas study and living experiences: Guan Liang (1900–1986), Sanyu (1901–1966), Kuo Pochuan (1901–1974), Yun Gee (1906–1963), and Pang Xunqin (1906–1985). The exhibition featured a total of twenty-eight works on paper, primarily depicting landscapes and figures.
Having studied and lived in different regions, the five artists developed distinct artistic approaches shaped by their individual experiences and the cultural milieu of their respective eras. Among the works presented were Sanyu’s 1929 watercolor Blue-Haired Woman Seated on a Chair, Yun Gee’s Resurrection, Pang Xunqin’s Dance, Guan Liang’s watercolor Lady, and Kuo Pochuan’s watercolor depicting the Baomei Building in Tainan around 1949.
Through works on paper created between 1929 and 1949, the exhibition brought together five distinct artistic perspectives and highlighted the diverse explorations of Chinese artists in the first half of the twentieth century, particularly in the representation of figures and landscapes and in the expressive possibilities of works on paper.
